A book awaits you, but will you become one instead?" Roland, a low-ranking Fixer from the City, stumbles into the enigmatic Library, where he encounters the enigmatic Head Librarian Angela. After a brief confrontation, she spares his life and recruits him as her guide to the outside world. But her unorthodox methods involve sending out Invitations to potential guests, who are given a choice: accept and face mortal combat against the Library's skilled guardians, or decline and live to fight another day. The victors may claim any book they desire, but the defeated will be transformed into a book, their souls trapped within its pages. Angela's ultimate goal drives this twisted game: to acquire the fabled "perfect" book, which may hold the key to her own humanity.
